Update at 4 PM, 5th June 2016: WBJEE result has been announced at wbjeeb.nic.in as per the scheduled timing set by the board. Candidates can now check their results using the update below.
WBJEE result for engineering is reported to be announced at 4 PM today, according to West Bengal Board. The board will be publishing the rank and list of qualified candidates eligible to attend counselling today online. Around 44,258 aspirants had registered to take the WBJEE in engineering and medical both, while 31,604 had applied for medical only.
After the Supreme court initially passed order to shut off medical entrance tests being held at state level, the Joint entrance examination in Bengal was taken only for engineering and architect courses. However, Centre’s appeal later brought ordinance on NEET, making way for state CETs this year, at least. Therefore, the Bengal government rescheduled WBJEE medical on 20th July.
The sources have strongly suggested that result will be out today and it’s only a matter of time before WBJEEB officially issued the notification at it’s site.
The Bengal board will publish WBJEE result 2016 on www.wbjeeb.nic.in and the candidates will have to enter their roll number and date to birth to access their score card. It’s made clear by the board that no score cards will be dispatched to candidates and it can only be downloaded from official website. The candidates have to get the print copy of their marks/ score card which be will valid for counselling and admission process.
WBJEE 2016: the test was conducted on 17th May in three shifts only allowing engineering aspirants to sit. The Physics & Chemistry paper consisted of 80 questions with maximum 100 marks with a given time duration of 2 hours. Provided the same time duration, 75 questions were asked in Mathematics paper with 100 obtainable marks.
Close t0 40 thousand had turned out to take the examination on 17th May while the medical aspirants will now take the test on 20th July.
Reportedly, there has been continuous decline in applications for WBJEE. The board received only 75,682 applications including engineering and medical in March. In 2015, around 1.28 lakh had applied and more in the year before. Nearly 36,000 engineering seats are up for grab in West Bengal and the number of aspirants hardly surpasses that. Last year too, only around 17,000 seats were filled by the final round of counselling, leaving 19,000 seats vacant. There seems to be less takers for engineering seats in Bengal as more than 40% seats go vacant each year since past few years.
On the one hand, this trend might indicate the dwindling popularity of engineering as a profession while on the other, the reports also indicate the declining credibility of West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations as aspirants consider JEE mains and advanced exams their primary goal. Mostly, only those who fail to crack JEEs, go ahead with seats through WBJEE, excluding those who achieve top ranks in state entrance which provides them seats in good colleges.
After WBJEEB publishes WBJEE results today, it will release the counselling schedule soon. The admissions are facilitated to candidates on the basis of rank and colleges preferred by them.
