In a surprising turn of events, BFUHS has announced PMET 2016 result just an hour ago on bfuhs.ac.in. Aspirants were clueless about the declaration, as VC’s comments made the expectations of around 24 June declaration for PMET result. But here it is, declared.
Medical aspirants residing in Punjab have always been in risky condition when it comes to getting admission in medical courses offered in institutions located in their State. Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) is doing it all over again, with same mistakes it had done in past years. The entrance test named Punjab Medical Entrance Test – PMET was organized by the varsity on June 11, 2016, for admissions into MBBS and BDS courses for the academic session 2016-17, while the results were due to be announced on June 15. Its been more than 5 days now and the authority is still struggling with the preparation of results.
Now as the registration process for second phase of National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is coming to an end, medical aspirants are in confused state as their precious one year is on stake. 14,689 students took the PMET conducted by BFUHS and have been looking towards the university’s official website every day with hope that they will get to know their status for admissions, but to no avail.
The last date for submission of NEET application form (through e-challan) is June 21 while if students prefer to pay the examination fee through online mode, the same can be done till June 25.
To remind once again, Central government has converted All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) into NEET (Phase 1) in which over 6.5 lakh students appeared. AIPMT is being conducted every year for admissions in medical courses across the country under 15 percent quota. Centre scrapped all medical entrance tests and brought NEET keeping in line the Supreme Court’s verdict, but then allowed some states to go on with their own entrance test, for this academic session only. PMET, which was earlier scheduled for May 15 was also scrapped when the Supreme Court nullified the medical entrance tests. The test process came into action again as the ordinance giving exemption was brought by Centre later. BFUHS fixed tight schedule and decided to conduct the test on June 11, followed by results declaration on June 15 so that admission process could be completed in time.
When approached about the delay in PMET result 2016, Vice-Chancellor of BFUHS, Dr. Raj Bahadur said the university is working overtime for preparing the results. He said, “We are also worried about the fast approaching last date for submission of forms. The PMET result will be declared before this date. The mistakes and doubts about the questions in the PMET have already been clarified by the three committees.”
The issue in question here is the wrong answers mentioned in the answer keys of PMET 2016, released by the university. Well, the issue of mistakes in the question paper is not new with the university, even the last year test question paper had over 40 wrong questions out of total 200. It is evident that the university has not learnt any lesson from its past mistakes and the one who is suffering by this, is a medical aspirant of Punjab.
