Bengaluru: Earlier today, Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) declared the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) results for 3rd semester students of Mysore, after two days of Belagavi and Kalaburagi region, and delaying the results a farther 2 days from it’s notified schedule. CBCS results of third semester, all regions were to be out on 23rd May. However the results were only announced for Belagavi and Kalaburagi regions and yet remain for Bangalore region. VTU CBCS result of 3rd semester are expected tonight or by tomorrow morning, but there are no updates from VTU about it yet. 1st sem cbcs result is scheduled for 26th May. Mtech, MCA results were scheduled for May 24 as per a schedule notified nearly a week ago.
Students regularly complain about delays in receiving their results from VTU, but this year, the delay seems to have worsened. The varsity had conducted the exams of regular semesters for B.E., MCA, M.Tech as well as crash courses for B.E students in December 2016-January 2017, the results of which have been partially announced. Taking only B.E. results, what’s worse is that the results announcement had begun way back in April-end and has stretched all the way till May-end, and even now, many semester results remain to be out.
Just yesterday (May 23), VTU had scheduled the 3rd semester CBCS results declaration on 23rd April and after a full day of quiet on it’s part, the Varsity declared the results after 9 pm and even then only for two out of four regions. Moreover, things worsened from thereon too. The official website (www.vtu.ac.in) remained sluggish for hours, something that happens at least once a day. Question is, VTU knows this too well that the problem occurs every time it uploads the results, shouldn’t it update the servers? For god’s sake, it’s a technological university! Last week when results of 3rd and 4th semester non-CBCS scheme were declared, students could be able to check their results for over 10 hours. In most of the Universities in the country, there are laws that results should be declared within a stipulated time period. For example, Mumbai University has the rule to declare results in 45 days. MU also messes up but nothing comes close to VTU when it comes to delay in results. I personally hate writing such negative words but I am sorry, there are no good words for VTU.
“It’s one thing to delay results by few days, or even weeks if we’re talking about VTU here, but this time, the university has broken all records. Five months have passed and I still haven’t got my results,” said a third semester student to us. This is just one comment, the sheer frustration of students can be seen across social media platforms including our Facebook page.
The real issues begin when students don’t even know the results of their previous semester, and their exams for the current semester are set to begin within a month’s time. After the declaration of regular batch results, there is revaluation process and then there are revaluation results. This is a lengthy process which VTU has made extra lengthy. For the students who semester results have just been announced or better yet, still remain to be declared, with what mindset are they to appear for current semester exams?
If it’s not all, this time the results of many students have been withheld for one subject or more, and for unknown reasons. VTU has not issued any notice about it. The withheld results are uploaded again after some time after being updated. You see, the problem of students isn’t just over when the results come. It’s an endless cycle which happens every year. For a University among the best in the country, things like these are what puts University’s reputation at sake.
