Once again, for the fourth year in a row Vellore Institute of Technology has entered its name into the Limca Book of Records by providing placement to maximum number of the students in the first phase of campus placement. This year, more than 4,000 students graduating from Vellore Institute of Technology has already received the job offers. Therefore, setting the record of providing maximum placement offers to the students of VIT than any other institutions or university across India.
According to the press release, VIT has set three records in Limca Book. During the first phase of campus placement conducted between 1st September to 11th September, 2015, four of the IT giants recruited more than 1000 students. This was the first record to be set by the university. The second record, which was claimed by the university reveals that, 1911 students got the job letters from Cognizant, thus breaking the earlier record of recruiting 1,820 students from the graduating batch.
University’s founder chancellor G. Viswanathan issued a statement stating that maximum of the students got two or more job letters. Mentioning that almost 5,828 job letters were offered by the top IT companies like Wipro, Infosys, Cognizant and Accenture to the students who participated in the placement drive in the first phase. As compare to previous year placement record of the university where maximum of 3,934 jobs were offered to the students, this year the university has set a new record breaking all their previous year placement records.
Sekar Viswanathan, Vice President of VIT stated that maximum of the students opt for higher studies and not participated in the placement drive while around 2 percent of the final year students chose for entrepreneurship. He mentioned that, this year the salary offered to the students was in average of Rs 3 lakh annually for the undergraduate students.
The university is expecting to place more students by the end if the academic year 2015-16. According to the varsity officials, till now 55 companies has conducted their placement drive in the university. The university’s Deputy Director of Placement Cell, Mr. Samuel Rajkumar stated that, every year university provides 90 percent of job offers to the student. Adding to his speech he mentioned that this year as many as 150 companies are scheduled to come to the university for placement as compare to previous year in which all total of 188 companies took part.
The University has also witnessed higher salary being offered to the students thus year, such as companies like Flipkart, eBay selected the final year students offering maximum of Rs 15 lakh per annum.
Vellore Institute of Technology has set an another record in registering maximum for the entrance examination for the admission in B.Tech course in 2015. As per the sources, approximately 2,02,406 candidates had applied for the common entrance test of VIT in the month of April 2015.
