Recent news that Uttarakhand government’s is planning to release postal stamp in the memory of famous Hindi poet, Sumitranandan Pant will bring cheers to many of his followers and fans. According to press release from Raj Bhavan, the proposal made by Governor of Uttarakhand, Mr Krishna Kant Paul to revive the memories of great literary creator and major supporter of Chaayavadi School of Hindi Literature was accepted by the Centre.
The approval was given by Union Minister of Communications and Information technology, Mr Ravishankar Prasad and a postage stamp would be released on 23rd of December 2015. It was well known that, Sumitranandan Pant works had the inherent natural beauty, touch of humanity, modernity and was also philosophical in its approach. Highly impacted by those works of Pant, Mr Krishna Kant Paul, Governor of Uttarakhand, suggested launching of postal stamp in the memory of great Sumitranandan Pant.
It was also known that, Sumitranandan Pant was recognized for his works by the government of India and he was bestowed with Padma Bhushan, literary awards like Jnanpith Award, Sahitya Akademi and Soviet Land Nehru Award etc.
Sumitranandan Pant was born in the year 1900 in Uttarakhand. He was famous for his works which were in Sanskritized Hindi. He was responsible for publications of twenty eight works such as poetry, essays, verse plays etc. It must be noted that in 1968, he became first Hindi poet to receive Jnanpith Award. He passed away in 1977 in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh.
