Paying tribute to former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav announced that the government has decided to rename the Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU) as Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University as on July 31.
An official spokesman, as said to the local newspaper, “In order to give Dr. Kalam the grand memorial, the government has decided to rename Uttar Pradesh Technical University.”
Dr. Kalam who was also known as ‘Missile Man of India’ played a major role in development of the nation. He got the tag of Missile Man after his involvement as a chief scientific advisor to then Prime Minister Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee for Pokhran-II nuclear missile launch test. The recipient of Bharat Ratna award dedicated his entire life to serve the nation. His one of the great specialty was his love for the children and youth of the nation.
He had inspired many youth to fight against the corruption. After leaving the President office, Mr. Kalam returned back to being educationist and gave lectures in many of the elite universities across India. In a tragic incident, Dr. Kalam suffered a massive heart attack while delivering a speech at IIM Shillong. His last ritual was done at Rameshwaram with full military honours and gun salute.
Uttar Pradesh Technical University, which was during Mayawati BSP Government divided into two parts namely Gautam Budh Technical University (GBTU) for Lucknow and Mahamaya Technical University (MTU) for Noida region were renamed as Uttar Pradesh Technical University by Akhikesh Yadav’s government.
Recalling the deep affection of Dr. Kalam towards the state who recently had inaugurated a 250KV mini solar power plant in Kannuj district, the Akhilesh government states that this renaming will be a tribute to Dr. Kalam. Dr. Kalam recently launched Rashtriya Avishkar Abhiyan in New Delhi.
Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam was regarded worldwide as a personality who has dedicated his entire life towards science and technology and also towards academics. This renaming of UPTU was totally intended to give Dr. Kalam a grand tribute for his works. The Chief Minister also stated that how Dr. Kalam’s visions and principal have been a great influence for him and he would also like the young generation to follow his foot steps. This is the first step towards provoking the students to get inspiration from Dr. Kalam’s life.
Addressing a meeting, Akhilesh Yadav also emphasized on improving the education standards as well as the infrastructure of UPTU. Adding to his speech, the Chief Minister also stated that the government would provide full cooperation for guidance of the students who are studying under UPTU so that they get a better career option, be it nationally or globally.
UPTU offers a wide range of courses across Uttar Pradesh like B.Tech, MBA, MCA, BBA, BCA etc. The Vice Chancellor of UPTU said that they have planned to open up post graduation and research program under UPTU to give students better career opportunities.
