UPSC IAS prelims exam 2017: admit cards issued

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the admit card for Indian Administrative Services (IAS) preliminary examination 2017 that will be conducted on June 18, 2017. UPSC admit card for IAS prelims exam 2017 have been uploaded at www.upsc.gov.in for the candidates who have registered to take this civil service examination. Candidates may now download the IAS admit card from the official website using their application number and details. Even though the admit cards were scheduled to be released just three weeks prior to the written examination date, UPSC released them earlier. www.upsc.gov.in, the official is also not functioning well since the news broke out. Candidates are advised to wait out a bit to download the admit card.

This year, UPSC will be looking to fill-in a total of 980 vacancies, which is the least in last five years. Apart form lesser vacancies, it’ll be for the first time in 3 years that UPSC will conduct the IAS prelims in June instead of it’s July/August timeline. The commission had released the notification in February 2017 inviting the applications for IAS preliminary (civil services) examination 2017.

The IAS Prelims exam will be held on June 18 and the admit cards have been issued today. Based on the performance in the Prelims, a limited number of candidates will be called to take the Mains exam which is scheduled to be held on October 28. While the prelims comprises of only 2 papers, the mains exam will consist of 7 papers including 2 papers as optional.

Important Instructions related to UPSC IAS Prelims Admit Card:

  • Check the UPSC Civil Services admit card carefully and if there’s any discrepancy in the details, inform the UPSC immediately.
    enter the examination hall 20 minutes before the commencement of the exam.
  • Mobile phones, calculators, IT gadgets and any other communication device such as Bluetooth etc are not allowed inside the examination centers.
  • The candidates must attempt the Prelims exam is the respective allotted test centres only.

As per the first step of the selection process, all the applicants are required to take the IAS Prelims exam. The IAS Prelims exam comprises of two papers: General Studies (GS) and Civil Service Aptitude Test (CSAT). Both the papers will have objective type questions and each paper will be of 200 marks. The question papers will be set in both English and Hindi languages.

As per the revised examination pattern, CSAT (Paper 2) will remain to be of qualifying nature and the candidates are required to score minimum 35 percent marks in the paper in order to be considered for further selection processes. For the merit purpose, the marks scored by the candidates in GS (Paper 1) will be considered. Negative marking is also there in the objective type question papers in prelims exam.
