Today, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has published an authorized announcement for Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, which has been scheduled to be conducted on 23rd August, 2015. The notification has been issued earlier today as on 23rd May after it was postponed from its initial release date on 16 May.
At present, it is thoroughly official that only marks obtained in General Studies paper – 1 will be measured in Preliminary exam to establish one’s eligibility to appear for the Mains exam. Whereas General Studies paper – 2 (CSAT) is made to meet the requirements – meaning , an aspirant must score minimum marks in this paper too i.e. 33% to qualify for the Mains, but those marks won’t be considered to decide the list of candidates suitable for appearing in the Mains exam.
According to the notification published by UPSC, “The Commission will draw a list of candidates to be qualified for Civil Service (Main) Examination based on the criterion of minimum qualifying marks of 33% in General Studies Paper-II of Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination. And total qualifying marks of General Studies Paper-I of Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination as may be determined by the Commission.”
There will be 100 number of questions (there was a rumour that the number of questions would be greater than before) in General Studies Paper – 1 and each paper is for 200 Marks.
Irrespective of age, those candidates, who had appeared for the 2011 exam are provided with one more opportunity to write this exam in 2015. Optionals are not eliminated and the examination is not deferred.. The total number of vacancies is 1129 for which the examination is to be conducted on 23rd August 2015.
The Government has nodded approval for the following points in context of the Civil Services Examination: An Expert Committee would be formed to extensively scrutinize diverse issues raised from time to time like, eligibility, syllabus, scheme and pattern of Civil Services Examination.
Till the time, Central Government takes verdict on the recommendation of the above mentioned Committee, the General Studies Paper-II (CSAT) in the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination will continue to be a qualifying paper with a minimum qualifying marks preset at 33%. The English Language understanding skill segment from General Studies Paper-II of Civil Services(Preliminary) Examination will carry on to being barred. The above judgements are integrated in the CSE Rules-2015.
