The country is in a changing phase and the journey to digitization has started. It is a way where cash transactions will be reduced to gain more transparency on all the transactions. For involving the younger generation in the move, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked all the universities and colleges to promote and teach the payments to be done by the digital mode. In this method, the government aims at promoting and teaching the youth about digital payments on National Youth Day. If a person knows about the digital payment, he/she should teach the same to at least 10 more people so that this can be a movement to educate the entire nation, the government says.
There are many ways in which digital payments can be done and at least one method should be known to all the individuals. A letter was sent across to all the universities by the UGC on January 12, to educate the people about the digital payments. With the demonetization move where 500 and 1000 denominations were considered null and void to stop black money laundering, the digital payments are being promoted by the government to make sure you do not deal with a lot of cash on a daily basis.
The National Cadet Corps (NCC) and National Service Scheme (NSS) has been roped in by the UGC to take the market just outside their campus so that the shop owners can be educated about this movement and more digital payments can be initiated for reducing the cash transactions. With this movement, the next stop will be the IITs and NITs and other institutions that are funded by the state governments. It is a great way to penetrate the market with the education of digital movement.
Reason for implementing it in the universities
This campaign will ensure that the campuses will be completely cashless, with every receipt being generated with digital payments. UGC has initiated this among the students studying in the higher education institutions as they will be the face of the economy in the future and will make the country free of corruption and black money. It is a great thought put across by the UGC to strike the right chords. Let us all come and join this movement and make our nation a corruption free and digital economy.
