As the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) announced results of Civil Services Examination, it brought happiness for over one thousand candidates and their families across the country. While other candidates might be gearing up to take up another chance, the shortlisted candidates are just busy in digesting the greatest news of their life. Among them, the happiest person in India would definitely be Delhi based girl Tina Dabi, who has been announced as the topper of one of the most tough examination conducted in India.
UPSC conducts Civil Services examinations in three stages, preliminary test, mains and interview round, followed by Final results. UPSC conducted Civil Services Prelims exam 2015 on August 23 in which 4,65,882 candidates appeared. Candidates were shortlisted to appear in the main exam on the basis of results announced on 12 Oct. Written exam (Mains) held in December last year while interviews for Personality test were held in March-May 2016. UPSC, today, released a list of 1078 candidates (name and roll number) who managed to secure a position in the merit list.
UPSC recommends candidate for appointment to Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, Indian Police Service and Central Services (Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’) and the list of 1078 selected candidates include 499 general category, 314 OBC, 176 SC and 89 ST candidates. Additionally, UPSC has also released a list of 34 candidates whose recommendation is provisional. Top three candidates are : Delhi based Tina Dabi, Railway Officer Athar Aamir Ul Shafi Khan and IRS Officer Jasmeet Singh Sandhu.
Soon after the announcement of results, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated all successful candidates. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also congratulated Delhi-based UPSC topper.

UPSC Civil Services Exam Topper – Tina Dabi
22-year old Tina Dabi graduated from Lady Shri Ram College and she managed to crack the examination in first attempt. After getting the news, she said, “It is indeed a proud moment for me.”
Tina also expressed her wish to work for women empowerment. She said she would definitely choose Haryana as her work place. She said, “I always wanted to work in a challenging state. That is why I chose Haryana. We all know the sex ratio of girl and boy child is quiet less and that is why I would like to contribute my efforts for the empowerment of women there.”
Tina devoted her success in the examination to hard work, patience, focus and discipline. She also mentioned that her family supported her at large and it proved the stepping stone for her success. “I am surprised but at the same time happy and very ecstatic. I did believe that I would make it to the list but being number one is something of my dreams. The secret formula to my success is a lot of hard work, lots of patience and being blessed with a very hardworking mother,” Tina said.
23-year old Athar secured second position in the merit list. Athar attempted the Civil Services examination for the second time, in his first attempt he was selected for Indian Railway Traffic Service. Athar is currently undergoing training in Indian Railways Institute of Transport Management, Lucknow. Upon getting the news of this year results, Athar said, “It is a dream come true. I will not leave any stone unturned to work for the betterment of people.”
Athar is only the second person from Jammu and Kashmir, first one was Dr Shah Faesal who topped 2009 exams.
Athar opted for Jammu & Kashmir cadre and said he would be happy for work for the betterment of the state. He said, “I think there is a lot of scope to fulfill aspirations of people of my state.”
Jasmeet Singh Sandhu
Delhi based Jasmeet Singh is an officer in Indian Revenue Service. Jasmeet’s father works in Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). Jasmeet devoted his success to his parents and teachers. He said, “It is all because of my family, friends and Mukul Pathak sir (who runs a coaching class) that I could secure third rank in the exam.”
Along with Athar, Jasmeet had also appeared in last year examination (it was his fourth attempt) and was selected in Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Central Excise). He is currently getting training at National Academy of Customs, Excise and Narcotics, Faridabad.
