Anna University conducts Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET) to facilitate admission to the first year of the several Masters courses (MBA, M.Tech/M.E./M.Plan., MCA etc). The University avails the facility for candidates to opt to study under aided as well as self-supporting programmes.
This year, TANCET for the admissions to academic year 2017-18 for post-graduation degree in Business administration, Computer application and Engineering/Architecture programmes was conducted on March 25 & March 26 respectively. For TANCET-2017, the registrations had begun from January 29 and ended on February 20, 2017.
The varsity had seen the all-time high (preliminary data) in 2012 when 1,10,000 took TANCET and MBA aspirants being 59,000 out of the total. However, past two years’ data indicates that the demand for these professional higher education courses has waned in the state, at least for Anna University because in 2016, only 39,946 had registered and only 33,210 took the test, The same waning pattern was witnessed in 2015 when 54 thousand had applied and 49 thousand had appeared. Per experts, the market for teachers is saturated now which was good ten years ago when lots of college were being opened. In these times when unemployment is all-high, the issue remains large as a topic of discussion.
The varsity has not disclosed the numbers for this year till the date. The exam was carried out in two shifts on day 1 and one shift on day 2 and about 15 test venues were set up for the same. Over 20 thousand seats remain on offer for engineering & architecture aspirants under the colleges.
Without any prior notification or press note, Anna University declared the TANCET exam results 2017 here on Tuesday evening. The results can only be viewed by the candidates after login at the official website.
The test consisted of 100 objective type questions that were to be answered in 2 hours duration. The Varsity followed the traditional pen/paper based mode for holding the TANCET.
For now, only the TANCET result (marks) of the candidates have been published and the merit list (rank list) is to be out in next few days. The counselling will be done on the basis of candidates’ performance in the test and on the basis of the rank list.
The admissions are facilitated through the counselling process “TANCA” which will be held in May/June this year. The details about counselling remains to be notified by the Varsity for now. Expect a notification in a week or two.
For admission to under-graduate professional degree courses, the Varsity conducts a separate entrance examination known as TNEA. The applications for TNEA will start in April itself and the counselling will go all the way to July-August.
