After almost one week of the police raid on her house, suspended JD (U) leader Manorama Devi surrendered before a court in Gaya on Tuesday morning. Manorama’s son Rocky and husband Bindi Yadav are already in the police custody over the murder case of Aditya Sachdeva. Rocky is accused of killing Aditya near police lines in Gaya on May 7. Rocky was later arrested on May 10 from a hideout.
Earlier on May 11, Gaya police raided Manorama Devi’s house in Anugrah Puri Colony where they recovered at least 6 liquor bottles. The house was seized and an arrest warrant was issued against her under the state prohibition law, but she was on the run since then. Finally today morning, she surrendered herself before the court, from where she was sent to 14 days judicial custody. During the raid, police also found a minor working as domestic help in her house. District Labour Superintendent Rakesh Ranjan informed that the age of minor is 14 years and he is a resident of Jharkhand.
Following widespread outrage and criticism, Janta Dal (United) suspended Manorama Devi from the party for possession of liquor and shielding her son Rocky, who is accused of murder.
Manorama Devi, however, denied having possession of liquor bottles and termed it a political conspiracy by BJP. She said, “I respect the court and the government but the information is false, no liquor bottles were found in my house. I have been trapped.” “I am being falsely implicated under political conspiracy and the BJP is doing that,” she claimed.
Her lawyer Kaisar Sarfuddin had filed an anticipatory bail petition in the court, but on Monday, the court deferred hearing on the plea. Her lawyer said before the court that she had been ill until now.
In the road rage case, Bihar Police had arrested Bindi Yadav, bodyguard Rajesh Kumar earlier. After that Rocky Yadav surrendered before the court. Another accused and Rocky’s cousin Teni Yadav, who was alleged to be at the time of crime, surrendered on Monday.
