The Staff Selection Commission had issued the official notification in September for filling Junior Engineer (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Quantity Surveying & Contract) posts in CPWD, Central Water Commission, Department of Post, MES and other departments. The online applications were submitted from October 1 to 31, 2016. Around 3-4 lakh applications are generally received by the Commission for Junior Engineer exam.
The selection of candidates for filling Junior Engineer posts would now depend on Paper 1 & 2 only. SSC has done away with the interviews for JE posts and hence only the performance of candidates in Paper 1 & 2 will be considered for final selection.
Initially, Junior Engineer Paper 1 was scheduled to be held on December 3, 4 & 5, however, the Commission rescheduled the exam and announced the new dates through a notice published on November 16. The paper 1 will now be conducted on December 8, 9 & 12 and the candidates are required to get their respective admit card to appear for the exam. The admit cards will be issued by SSC Regional Offices and will be available at their respective web portals.
SSC JE Paper 1 would be taken as an online exam of 2 hours duration. Paper 1 would have 50 questions on General Intelligence & Reasoning section; 50 questions under General Awareness and 100 questions on respective engineering subject. Section 3 (General Engineering) would contain three parts – Part A (Civil & Structural), Part B (Electrical) and Part C (Mechanical). The candidates would have to take any of these parts depending on their field. The Paper 1 would be conducted in two shifts – morning shift (10 am to 12 noon) and evening shift (2 pm to 4 pm).
Junior Engineer Paper 2 would be held on February 19, 2017. Paper 2 would be taken as a written examination of 300 marks. The candidates will be called for Paper 2 based on the performance in paper 1.
