The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has notified that it will conduct CGL tier exam 2016 from Nov 30 to Dec 2. After testing the patience of aspirants for over 2 months, SSC finally announced the results of CGL Tier 1 exam on 8 November, thus declaring 1,49,319 candidates eligible to appear for further examination process. As much as 14.82 lakh candidates had taken the Tier 1 exam held in August, September & October (re-exam).
Staff Selection Commission conducts Combined Graduate Level Examination every year to fill Group B & C posts across ministries/departments.
Now that the schedule of CGL Tier 2 exam has been released by the Commission, the eligible candidates are waiting for the release of admit cards. CGL Tier 2 admit card is expected to be released on November 15.
CGL Tier 2 exam would be conducted in two shifts of two hours each from November 30 to December 2. Morning shift will be from 10 am to 12 noon and the evening shift will be from 2.45 pm to 4.45 pm. CGL Tier 2 exam consists of four papers :
- Quantitative Aptitude – 200 marks
- English Language and Comprehension – 200 marks
- Statistics – 200 marks
- General Studies (Finance and Economics) – 200 marks
All the qualified candidates will have to appear for Tier 2 exam (Paper 1 & 2), while only selected candidates will take Paper 3 or Paper 4. Only those candidates who have opted for the post of Junior Statistical Officer (Grade-II)/Compiler and Assistant Audit Officer are required to take Paper 3 and Paper 4 respectively. A total of 28,234 candidates were declared qualified to take Paper 3, while 45,293 candidates qualified for Paper 4.
Changes in the Examination Process : CGL Tier 1 used to be only a qualifying test earlier, however, the Commission released a notification in July, announcing some changes in the examination structure. The number of questions in Tier 1 exam were reduced from 200 to 100 and Tier 1 & 2 exams were made online. The maximum marks for Tier 1 & Tier 2 exam remain 200 and 400 respectively. For Junior Statistical Officer, Compiler and Asst Audit Officer, Tier 2 exam is of 600 marks.
It was also notified that Tier-3 exam would be taken in pen and paper mode. It would consist of a descriptive paper of English/Hindi and would carry a weightage of 100 marks. Tier 4 exam would be conducted for selected posts as required by the Commission. Tier 4 -Data Entry Skill Test (DEST)/Computer Proficiency Test (CPT) will remain qualifying in nature as the final merit list will be prepared on the basis of performance of candidates in Tier 1, 2 & 3 exams.
