The officers of adult literacy mission were asked by Union HRD minister Smriti Irani, to fix age-wise target to complete literacy in one year. This statement came soon after the announcement of plans to achieve complete literacy in the villages by March 2016 under Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana scheme. It was to be noted that the best performing officer would be rewarded with amount of Rs 1 lakh. Smriti Irani was also of view that age group must be chosen and target must be reached.
HRD minister also spoke about the ‘mera district mera plan’ initiative and identification of challenges and issues in the literacy drive. It must be noted that, 56 percent of uneducated population were above the age of 75. She also spoke about preparing skill map on individual districts and identifying skill sets distinct and applicable to particular district for engaging people for livelihood opportunities.
Smriti Irani also spoke highly about the directors of the mission and said that Rs 1 lakh cash would be given to best performing director. She further added that, second best performing director would be given Rs 75000 and Rs 50000 to third best performing director etc. A paid holiday trip with their wives would be given to the performing directors. The directors also assured that they would do all their level best in the formulation and execution of their district plan in the stipulated time given by Smriti Irani.
September 8th was celebrated as International Literacy Day and on this day Smriti Irani assured that total literacy would be attained in villages under Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana by March 2016. A national website on apprenticeship training was launched by Smriti Irani to help candidates to apply in any region of the country. It was to be noted that, the scheme was implemented by Boards of Apprenticeship. HRD minister expressed her happiness over contributions made by JSS in mobilization of people to get the benefits of Jan Dhan Yojana and Suraksha Bhima Yojana started by Prime Minister of India.
