“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.” – Martin Luther king jr.

Today these lines are of worth because nowadays the amendments in education are becoming so impulsive that we have forgotten what the real need of the hour is.

Here comes another change in the education system of Haryana. Haryana government announces to scrap the semester system in schools from 2016.

From the academic session of the year 2016 BJP has decided to carry out the semester system in all state board affiliated schools in Haryana.

The decision of scrapping the semester system from the upcoming year was officially declared by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

The demerits of semester system that were observed are:

  • The time for recovery for the students is very less.
  • Students are unable to understand many chapters.
  • Small period of time.
  • Students study only to pass to another class not to gain knowledge.

Since the system was in continuation for X and XII , therefore for the current SESSION 2014-15 they will study in the same process but for IX and XI this system will be scrapped.

We know that the investment in knowledge pays the best interest. Similarly keeping such a thought in mind and having a communication session with agents of all teachers, affiliations and unions with Chief Minister and Education Minister on April 24 this year, there was consistent feeling to get rid of the semester framework in schools, the discharge said.

At the same time the State Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma affirmed that no semester system will be followed from classes I to VIII and monthly test will be organized as done previously.

The scrapping of system was also a consideration because in an assembly of Haryana board of secondary education (HBSE) on May 8 it was said that there was superfluous wastage of time of educators in extra examination obligations and inspecting of papers for 1st semester of classes X to XII amid September and October consistently. And teachers were unable to give time for guiding the students of classes IX and XI. The other main reason was semester system was not a part of the biggest board cbse.

Education is an admirable thing, but it is well to remember from time to time that nothing that is worth knowing can be taught.
