SBI clerk mains result 2016 declaration undecided; PO mains result on August 16

The State Bank of India (SBI) is expected to announce the results of SBI PO mains exam on August 16 and it’s likely that SBI clerk mains result 2016 might also be declared around the same time frame. State Bank of India, undoubtedly the biggest public sector bank has always been the first preference of banking aspirants. The Bank provides an opportunity to these aspirants by notifying several recruitment time to time. Two of the major recruitment this year were Clerk and Probationary Officers recruitment. The application process for SBI Clerk and PO recruitment were started in April & May respectively for which well over 3.5 million candidates registered. Both the recruitment process are in their final stage as the results of Main exam should be out this month.

The delay:

While the candidates who have written the clerk mains exam are edged out about the delay in results, they must know that the delay in results is likely due to the government’s pending decision on the whether or not the interviews are to be conducted for the recruitment of clerical cadre posts in SBI. (I’ll post a detailed article about it next). As of right now, there’s no solid report to when the SBI clerk mains result 2016 will be out.

SBI had issued official notification for the recruitment of Junior Associates (Customer Support & Sales – JA) and Junior Agricultural Associates (JAA) earlier this year to fill total 17,140 posts. Over 2.5 million candidates registered for the test and as the results of Clerk Prelims exam were announced on June 17, around 3.5 lakh candidates were shortlisted to take the Mains exam. SBI organised the Clerk Mains exam on June 25 & 26, 2016. The online exam containing 190 objective type questions was divided into four parts – General/Financial Awareness, General English, Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning Ability & Computer Aptitude.

As over 3.5 lakh candidates appeared for the exam, the candidates had different take on the difficulty level of the question paper. Overall, it was reported that the Clerk Main exam was of moderate difficulty level. The results were initially scheduled to be announced on July 23, but the Bank is yet to provide any update on the result announcement. It is expected that the SBI Clerk Mains result will be announced in the second week of August.

Once the Mains exam results are announced, the Bank will invite the candidates ranking high enough in the merit for interview (if it gets Government’s approval). As the total vacancies are around 17000, it is expected that around 50 thousand candidates will be shortlisted to appear for Interview. The final selection to the Clerk posts will be done on the basis of the candidates’ performance in the Mains exam and Interview. A final merit list will be prepared by the Bank after combining the candidates’ marks in Main exam & interview. The merit list will be published online on the Bank’s website and also in Employment News/Rozgar Samachar.


The applications for SBI PO recruitment were submitted in May and with the closure of application forms on May 24, over 15 lakh candidates had registered for around 2200 Probationary Officers posts under the recruitment process. The Bank conducted the prelims exam in July (2, 3, 9 & 10) across the country and the results were announced on July 17. A supplementary test was also organised on July 23 in Srinagar City as many candidates could not attend the test earlier. The SBI PO Main exam was then organised on July 31.

The Main exam consisted of Objective type test for 200 marks and descriptive test for 50 marks. The objective test was of 3 hours duration and consisted of four sections – Reasoning & Computer Aptitude, Data Analysis & Interpretation, General Awareness and English Language. The candidates were then had to take the descriptive test (letter writing & essay). The Bank will prepare a merit list based on the candidates’ marks in objective test and descriptive test. The performance of the candidates in the descriptive test will only be judged if he/she secures minimum qualifying marks in the objective test.

The candidates shortlisted from the Main exam will be called for Group Discussion and Interview. As per the rules, the final merit list will be prepared by converting the marks obtained by the candidates in the Main exam from out of 250 marks to out of 75 marks, while the weightage of group discussion and interview (50 marks) will be 25 marks.

SBI PO Main result is scheduled to be announced on August 16, 2016, while the call letters for the interviews will be released online by the Bank on August 22. The ground discussions and interviews will be organised by the Bank on September 1 and the final result will be declared on September 30, 2016.
