Vidya Bharati Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Sansthan, education body of RSS, has suggested the ruling government to introduce a new pattern of education system. In a proposal, it emphasizes on ‘Indianisation’ of Education. Vidya Bharti has recommended that schools in metropolitan cities should run on longer hours and students should be taught their mother language as well as foreign language. The proposal has been submitted to the Human and Resource Development Ministry.
On increasing the duration of time at school, RSS explained that working parents had stress for their wards’ homework, so it would be easier if students spend more time at school. Besides, it would also help in extracurricular activities such as art, dance, music and sports. School hours should be of 12 hours instead of current 6 hours, 7:30 AM – 7:30 PM, RSS body suggested.
Negating the co-education system, it proposed, as co-ed school faced numerous issues so it would be difficult to teach boys and girls at the same time.
Emphasizing on Indian culture, RSS proposed to teach Sanskrit from middle school onwards so as to make them familiar with most Indian languages which don’t require the assistance of foreign language. Also, Sanskrit would help children’s pronunciation and spelling skills. However, the recommendations are not entirely against the foreign language, it suggest to set up a linguistic university to learn the Indian and foreign language. “It is easy for children to learn the language in childhood. That’s why they should be taught various languages – their mother tongue, Sanskrit, Hindi, English and regional languages,” said the report.
To hone up skills of the children, RSS has suggested conducting entrance for teacher training course and minimum eligibility criteria for the exam to be set at 50% marks. Also to avoid negligence of teachers, it has suggested introducing biometric attendance system at schools.
RSS and the ruling party has always been accused by opposition parties. The opposition blames the government and its associates are trying to saffronize education system. Vidya Bharti wanted to set up a model school in every part of the country, now it runs 12,364 schools and 49 colleges across the country. Now it totally depends on the HRD Ministry, how to deal with this proposal.
