Founder of Patanjali Yogpeeth Baba Ramdev while on the Houston Trip announced that he plans to start a world-class university in India in the next five years to educate around one lakh students in different streams, mentioning that a 1,500-acre land has already been acquired for it. Pretty much same announcement was made by him in the month of February this year that he plans to set up an international university in Delhi. The University would be of the level of Harvard and Cambridge, he added.
At the sold-out event held in Houston on August 23, Baba Ramdev while addressing the gathering on ‘Yoga and Inner Peace’ said that he has planned to build a world-class university in India near New Delhi like the University of Houston. The cost of the project would be around Rs 25,000 crore.
Wow Factor!! You visit Houston, you address the gathering saying that I want to set up a world-class university likewise Houston. Meanwhile, you visit Harvard or Cambridge and announce that you wish to set up an International University in par with the level of Harvard and Cambridge. Set up as many universities at par with any International university but make sure the quality of the education given in India does not get affected in any way.
This announcement comes when there are estimated 3-3.5 lakh Indian students seeking education abroad for lack of their courses of choice. If the university comes to fruition, a lot of education problems for aspiring students in India might be solved.
Looks like Baba Ramdev is taking ‘Make in India’ absolutely seriously
The proposed university will focus on three major areas – health, business, and education. Baba Ramdev also plans to donate 100 percent of all profit from the sale of herbal and food products of his Patanjali Ayurved for charitable causes and of it 80 percent (at least) would go towards education.
Baba Ramdev is known to come out with healthier products which contest other products in the market. There have been Patanjali beauty products, food items (including biscuits and noodles), clothing items (Yogawear), and medicines, among others.
This university thus established will be as reputed as the ancient higher-learning institutions – Nalanda and Takshila, so that students from all around the world would opt for India for higher education. Ramdev said he has also requested Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and Ministry of Human Resources Development to start a Vedic education board at state and national level to revive and promote the Indian ‘gurukul’ tradition of education.
