The Chief Minister of Punjab, Parkash Singh Badal has taken a very bold step. This step will better the life of the weaker sections of the society. He is planning to provide coaching to the students who will be soon appearing for civil services examination. In order to make sure that this happens, he will be setting up a world class centre for those students so that they are able to crack the examination. This step will also help them in their preparation. All those students, who, due to some reason or the other are not able to prepare for civil services will benefit from this. This step will also make sure that there are less number of drop outs from Punjab state. If this is successful, this will also ensure that more number of students from the weaker section of the society appear for these examinations. The government aims to focus on those students who are bright but due to financial conditions are not able to give their best when it comes to education.
He made this announcement at the fifth national seminar to commemorate 125th birth anniversary of Ambedkar in Bathinda. This centre will be soon set up in Maharaja Ranjit Singh State Technical University, and the state government will take care of all its expenses. Bhatinda city is making its move now, it has become the hub of education in the northern region of India. The state government has now started focusing more on the people of the city by providing them with various facilities and also coming up with schemes like these.
The Chief Minister said, “All of us should make dedicated efforts for carving out an egalitarian society rising above the petty considerations of caste, color, and creed.” He also stressed on the ideology of Ambedkar and said that government has set up schools that will focus on poor but bright students. The government will also be providing candidates a scholarship of Rs. 5 lakhs who is pursuing Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in life and philosophy of Dr. Ambedkar.
In the year 2014, the Punjab government had done something similar. It had invited application from candidates of different categories like SC, OBC, and minority community to apply for civil services examinations. All those candidates who get selected will be provided with free coaching, hostel accommodation and also financial assistance by the Punjab government. In that case, the selection of the candidates was made on the basis of an objective test conducted by the government.
