On July 25 2015, Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi would inaugurate the new campus of IIT Patna. The campus is at Bihta, 35 kms west of Patna. In Muzaffarpur which is around 70kms north of Patna, PM Modi would also attend a public rally and address the people there.
Ministry of Human Resources Development has already intimated Director of IIT Patna, Prof. Pushpak Bhattacharya regarding this matter. According to Mr Subhash Pandey, Registrar of IIT Patna, MHRD Joint Secretary Mr Rakesh Ranjan had conveyed information of PMs program and also asked for schedule and seating arrangements.
Mr Subash Pandey further added that, whole program regarding PM’s visit would be around 60 to 90 minutes duration and after consulting Prime Minister’s office, the ministry will communicate. Detailed schedule would be sent to the ministry on Monday. Mr Pandey also said that IIT is in the process of shifting from Patliputra to Bihta, 35 kms distance and it is carried out in phase wise manner with setting up of classrooms and laboratory at the new campus in Bihta.
It is now confirmed that the academic session would start from 22 July 2015. Registration and induction of new students would be done on July 22. From July 25 onwards, the classes would start. Now the inauguration by PM Narendra Modi is on July 25, the classes would begin from 26th of July.
IIT Patna was established in the year 2008, has currently 970 students studying along with 75 to 80 faculty members. It conducts under graduate course (B.Tech) in five different subjects for which the annual intake is 200 students.
The inauguration ceremony was supposed to be on 29 June 2015 and since the new campus was not ready, the opening of the new campus was deferred. Mr Pandey stated that classrooms, mess, hostel, faculty residence are ready now and new academic session would begin from the newly constructed IIT campus.
According to a State Home department official statement, during PM Narendra Modi’s public rally in Muzaffarpur, security of the highest order would be provided by Bihar government. The official further added that, Bihar government has directed some of its senior officers to prepare special security arrangement plan.
SPG Special Protection Group formed in 1988, commando force, is the one that looks after the security of Indian Prime Minister. Trust worthy security at Muzaffarpur is to be provided as per the state government’s request for the public rally.
