Islamabad based National University of Modern Languages (NUML) offers a M.Phil degree to a student, thus becoming the first ever university affiliated to Pakistan University to offer a degree in Hindi.
National University of Modern Language is a military run university, which was established in the year 1970. The university offers a wide range of courses in bachelor degree, master degree and in research level. This university was established with the aim of supporting the society to help communicating in different and oriental languages. The university is also known for its advancement research fields.
Shahin Zafar becomes the first student from NUML to receive degree in Hindi, thus becoming the first and foremost person in the country to receive such degree. She completed her thesis titled ‘Swantryottra Hindi Upanyason Mein’ under the guidance of Professor Iftikhar Hussain Arif. Thesis she developed was endorsed by Higher Education Commission, Dawn News. As per the university officials, due to lack of Hindi experts in the country, two experts from Aligarh Muslim University, India helped the university in evaluating Zafar’s thesis.
Owing to the low ratio of the literate population to that of ill-literates, the Pakistan government has always struggled to increase the literacy rate across the country. However in past few years, a considerable chance has been noticed in the society where people are now getting much more interested in learning unusual subjects.
