The written examination for Postman and Mail Guard posts under Odisha Postal Circle has been held today across the State. Thousands of candidates had registered for the exam which was conducted in a single shift of 2 hours (2.30 pm to 4.30 pm) today. For just 99 posts, thousands of applications were received by the Postal department as the minimum educational qualification was matriculation (Class 10).
The official notification (RE/30-22/2016) was released on January 17, 2017, for direct recruitment of Postman in Postal Divisions and Mail Guard in RMS Divisions of Odisha Postal Circle. Initially, the number of vacancies were 95 Postman posts and 1 Mail Guard post, however, the vacancies were revised later. Currently, the exam has been conducted to fill 95 Postman posts in 18 Postal Divisions and 6 Mail Guard posts in 3 RMS divisions under Odisha Postal Circle. The applications were filled in the month of January-February.
As per the standards, Odisha Postal exam was conducted as a single paper having three sections: A, B & C. Section A consisted of 25 questions on General Knowledge and Section B had 25 questions on Mathematics. Section C was divided into two sub-sections: English and Regional Language (Odia). Both the sub-sections had 25 question each and the whole paper consisted of 100 objective type questions. The aptitude test carries 100 marks.
It was already announced that the selection to Postman and Mail Guard posts will be done strictly on the basis of aptitude test. The minimum qualifying marks are 10 in Section A, B, and both sub-sections separately. The minimum qualifying marks 9 for OBC category and 8 for SC & ST category candidates. The candidates are also required to obtain minimum 40 marks in aggregate (for General category), 37 marks for OBC and 33 marks for SC, ST category. The merit list will be prepared on the basis of marks obtained by the candidates in respect of all categories of posts put together.
The release date for Odisha postal exam results/merit list has not been set by the Department yet. It is expected that results and the merit list maybe released in a month’s time.
