Now B.Tech admissions at Jamia through JEE Mains

It is expected that Jamia Millia Islamia will do away with its undergraduate engineering entrance exam from upcoming academic session 2016-17, instead the university will offer admission on the basis of JEE Mains. During the present academic session, JMI EEE was re-conducted because the preliminary investigation revealed that possibility of breach in the examination system with respect to the entrance exam.

In the press conference, Jamia VC Talat Ahmad said, “We have initiated process for the same and have approached the concerned authorities. There are certain procedures that need to be followed, hopefully we will be able to admit the students through JEE exam from next academic session.” Further he added, “It will not only help us deal better with chances of paper leak but also the recognition of courses offered by Jamia will improve significantly since the students will be admitted through JEE.”

Jamia Millia Islamia University is a Central University located in Delhi and offers undergraduate and post graduate courses in Science, Commerce & Arts. The university is also planning to come up with a medical college soon and just waiting for the land dispute to be resolved.

In October 2014, Hon’ble Supreme Court disapproved of the haste shown by Delhi government in acquiring and transferring the disputed land in South Delhi to the university. This decision was a setback for Jamia’s ambitious project of opening a medical college-cum-hospital. The conflict over 114 acre property where the proposed medical facility was supposed to come up came into limelight when Uttar Pradesh government claimed the land was owned by it and it also had the possession.

The Vice Chancellor said, “We are waiting for the land dispute to be resolved. As soon as we have clarity on the same, we will approach the Medical Council of India (MCI).”

JEE Main or Joint Entrance Examination is conducted by CBSE for admission to undergraduate engineering programmes in National Institute of Technology (NITs), IIITs, other centrally funded technical institutions (CFTIs) participating state government institutions and many other private institutions. It is also eligibility test for the JEE Advanced, which candidates have to take if they desire to seek admission to the undergraduate programmes offered by IITs/ ISM Dhanbad.
