The results of National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for both phase 1 and phase 2 exams is set to be declared on August 17.
NEET result 2016 for 1st and 2nd medical entrance tests were held on May 1 & July 24, 2016, are scheduled to be announced on August 17. The Supreme Court had brought in National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) replacing the All India Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental Test (AIPMT) for all the admissions into MBBS & BDS courses offered at the institutions across the country from this year. The apex court had ordered AIPMT held on May 1 to be named as NEET-1, followed by the second phase test NEET-2 on July 24 to give equal opportunity to the medical aspirants. Over 6.5 lakh aspirants appeared for NEET-1, while around 4.7 lakh took the second phase test. The second phase test was conducted in a rather fair manner, but the reports of attempted paper leakage came from Uttarakhand State when the Police arrested 5 persons from two locations in Ramnangar & Haldwani, Uttarakhand one day before the test. However, the Board released a notification stating that upon reviewing the seized material it has been found that the news of question paper leakage was false.

One aspirant from New Delhi, Anshul Sharma approached the Supreme Court and filed a petition demanding the court to direct the CBSE for conducting re-test of phase 2 exam. The matter was taken up by a bench of Justices A R Dave and L Nageswara Rao on Tuesday, where the bench refused to monitor police probe in the alleged question paper leak. The bench said, “We don’t want to monitor. Court is not meant for monitoring these issues. SSP (Haldwani) and others are looking into the matter and let them do the investigation.” However, the bench granted permission to Sharma to approach the Uttarakhand High Court if he is not satisfied with the progress of the police investigation.
With the apex court declining the petition, the CBSE is not expected to make any change in the notified schedule and hence NEET result may come out on August 17. With over 7.5 lakh candidates waiting for every minute update on NEET, the Central Board of Secondary Education is also heading towards the announcement of results. The OMR sheets of both NEET-1 & NEET-2 were released on August 4, followed by the answer keys release on August 8. As the answer keys will be removed from the official website after 5 PM today, the next to come from the Board’s end will be the announcement of NEET result.
CBSE had, in its initial schedule, mentioned that a combined result of both NEET-1 & NEET-2 would be announced on or before August 17.
