The notification for NEET 2017 (UG) with exam date and schedule will expectedly be issued sometime next week and the process to submit NEET 2017 application form will take place online via www.cbseneet.nic.in (official website).
The prolonged delay in the release of notification for NEET 2017 has kept the aspirants worried and clueless. Let alone the registrations, the organising board CBSE hasn’t even fixed the schedule yet. But finally, some good news is around the corner with the official website of NEET being prepared to relaunch, indicating that candidates may get the details soon.
The national-level medical entrance examination for admissions into undergraduate medical and dental programs is usually administered on the first Sunday of May every year and hence the official notification is rolled out in December. But the big-time shuffling caused by the Hon’ Supreme Court’s order issued last year to quash the state-level entrance exams and facilitate admissions in all medical and dental programs across the country through national level NEET has landed the aspirants in an uncomfortable situation.
While most of the states used to hold common entrance test (CET) for admissions in medical/ dental institutes, CBSE used to conduct AIPMT for filling 15% all-India quota seats. With the introduction of NEET, the admissions in all the seats (medical & dental) will be done through the NEET merit list. There are some 50 thousand odd seats in MBBS and BDS programs for which NEET will act as a single entrance test. Last year, owing to the last-minute decision as well as considering the plight of the aspirants, the Supreme Court had allowed some states to hold admissions through CETs, but it was made clear then only that this won’t be repeated in 2017. Hence, some states like Karnataka, Kerala, West Bengal have already started the application process for their respective CETs, with special mention of NEET to be used for medical and dental admissions.
The proceedings of All-India Pre-Medical/ Dental Test (AIPMT) were carried out by the CBSE through official website www.aipmt.nic.in. Even last year when the NEET was brought in, replacing the AIPMT, the formalities were carried out through the same portal. On the other hand, when the NEET was first conducted in the year 2013, another website was launched with the name www.cbseneet.nic.in. This website was supposed to be used for the examination this year and thanks to the CBSE, the site has undergone the construction phase. The site currently displays the message ‘Site is under construction and will be launched shortly!‘
This message is sure to bring a hope amongst the medical aspirants. With few inputs from media, it is safe to assume that the NEET 2017 forms will be available anytime now, most probably from Monday, January 23.
The NEET 2017 would be conducted in six regional languages (Tamil, Telugu, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati and Marathi), along with Hindi and English.
