National Overseas Scholarship 2015-16 aimed to help students with disabilities

Government of India started National Overseas Scholarship for Students with Disabilities with a view to provide financial assistance to the students for pursuing higher education abroad. The applications are invited from students with disabilities for the scholarship scheme 2015-16 by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and Department of disability affairs. The last date for submission of the applications is 3 October 2015.

The financial aid is provided to the deserving students for Masters level courses and Ph.D in Engineering, Management, Pure Sciences, Applied Sciences, Agricultural Science, Medicine, Commerce, Accounting, Finance, Humanities, Social Sciences & Fine Arts.

It must be noted that out of total of 20 scholarships given per year, six scholarships are reserved for women category. Apart form that there is a provision for two passage air grant with airfare cost being provided without any scholarships.

The students with disabilities below 35 years of age and having secured 55% in Bachelor’s degrees or Master’s degree can apply for the scholarship. One important point to be considered here is the disabled students parental income must be six lakh per annum.

It must be noted that under this scheme annual maintenance allowance of 9900 pounds will be provided for the students pursuing courses in United Kingdom. For those students who pursue higher studies in other countries, financial aid of USD 15,400 will be provided. Apart form maintenance allowance there are also provisions for tuition fee and cost of air passage. The web portal from which details regarding the eligibility criteria and application form can be fetched is www.disabilityaffairs.gov.in.

Important documents to be submitted by the candidates for NOS 2015-16 under the disabled quota are –

Duplicate copies of completed pro-forma, Date of birth certificate (Class 10 pass certificate), Voter ID, Aadhar card, Residence proof, PAN card of candidate and parents/guardians copy, educational qualifications mark sheets copy. Other documents including details of proposed study materials, copy of admissions from university, a self attested certificate that no other scholarships are utilized for the same course of study plus any other important additional certificates must be submitted.
