Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been named by Time Magazine as one of the most influential person on internet. Time Magazine recently updated its second annual list called “The 30 Most Influential People on the Internet” featuring Narendra Modi for the second time in a row.
The official update from Time mentioned Narendra Modi as an ‘Internet Star’ who often breaks news on social media. It said, “The leader of the world’s largest democracy is also an Internet star, boasting more than 18 million Twitter followers and over 32 million Facebook likes. He often uses social media to break news and conduct diplomacy.”
Time releases the unranked list on annual basis and this is the second time the list has come out. Time magazine finalizes the people by accounting their global impact on social media. It also judges people on their overall ability to drive news. Others who made to the Time’s list include US Presidential candidate Donald Trump, bestselling author J.K Rowling, soccer star Christiano Ronaldo, rapper Kanye West and his wife Kim Kardashian West, DJ Khaled, artist Drake, YouTube stars Lilly Singh and Laci Green.
Time cited two tweets of Narendra Modi in the description, one of which was made by Modi to announce that he would visit Lahore, Pakistan to wish Pakistani PM Nawaz Sharif on his birthday. It also cited the faux pas made by Modi on February 12, when he wished happy birthday to Afghanistan’s President Ashraf Ghani. It said, “That tweet made headlines for the wrong reasons, though: the Afghan President replied with his thanks, and a polite note that he was actually born on May 19.”
