Mohali: Fake degree racket exposed, accused were targeting upcoming Punjab Police recruitment

fake degree racket in mohaliThe maligned racket of fake degrees and certificates now seems to be under the control with the arrest of three men in Mohali. In Mohali, fake degrees were provided to those students who could not pass the exams and eventually, being used to land jobs.

The arrested persons, Raj Kumar from Dabwali Kalan, Sanjay Kumar alias Sonu from Baltana and Chander Kumar from Zikarpur, used to carry this sinister work, usually charging their clients between Rs 2,500- Rs 10,000. In the arrest, the police team has recovered more than 1,500 fake degrees and certificates, three laptops, a computer, a scanner, a number of fake stamps of various educational institutions and Rs 90,000 in cash.

“These three people used to provide fake degrees and certificates with modified marks. They were targeting around 400 people for the upcoming Punjab Police recruitment,” said SAS Nagar senior superintendent of police- Gurpreet Singh Bhullar. Also, they used to arrange fake appointment letter of railways and Food Corporation of India (FCI).

The arrested person now have accepted all the charges against them. They also said that a class 12th student with fake degree joined Punjab Police department four years ago.

The arrested people somehow arranged the contact numbers of those type of students who could not pass the class 12th exam or the graduation exam and offered fraudulent degrees. They also used to misguide people after making contacts in Delhi in the name of jobs in railways. Punjab Police has also sought help from Delhi Police to dig deeper in this case.

Surprisingly, the recovered certificates were from different universities like Panjab University, Manav Bharti University, Monad University, Bundelkhand University, and also education board of ICSE, CBSE Delhi and Delhi and Punjab School Education Board.

In March, a similar case happened in Bhatinda where around 350 fake degrees were recovered and the accused were from Bhatinda and Karnal (Haryana). So, Punjab Police should take this case seriously and try to get more information regarding this type of scam.
