The first Manipur Technical University (MTU) was inaugurated by Manipur Governor V. Shanmuganathan at the State Academy of Training, Takyelpat campus. The varsity was established by an Ordinance of the Government of Manipur on April 23, 2016. The university is the second technical university in the entire NE region, with the first being in Assam. The bill regarding the opening of the university has not been passed by the House, however, it has been inaugurated under an ordinance. The bill is expected to be passed during the next session. The function was also attended by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, Education minister Kh Ratankumar, Social Welfare Minister Ak Mirabai Devi, PWD Minister Ksh Biren, Agriculture Minister Abdul Nasir and Khangabok MLA O Landhoni.
The only technical university of Manipur proposes to offer B.Tech courses in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electronics and communication engineering and computer science and engineering. All technical institutions of the state are to be affiliated to the university. The Manipur Technical University will serve as the new hub of technical education where talents and opportunities come together for a better future of Manipur. The Manipur Technical University is very new which has a great future to be among the top technical universities.
The university will have five streams and good teachers and faculties professors and assistant professors is the need of the hour. As of now, 34 students from the state have already joined civil engineering, 27 in electronic engineering, 27 in computer science, 22 students in electronics and communication engineering and 18 students in mechanical engineering under Vice-Chancellor Vanid Joshi. The university will also help the state in building its own human resource. The university’s standard is not less than any other institutes recognised under the All India Council of Technical Education. The university’s faculties will be following the teaching process as prescribed by the AICTE.
The higher education sector offers an ocean of opportunities for our youth as we increasingly move towards a knowledge-driven society. We have the potential resource to give a reasonably comfortable living standard, thus making potential resource into goods and service lies pre-eminently in the sphere of engineering technology in this war against poverty. The success of planning of all the schemes largely depends upon the capacity to hold together as a nation in the midst of diversity of language, region, cast and religion.
Governor V Shanmuganathan inaugurated the university at the State Academy of Training, Takyelpat campus and while addressing the gathering said Manipur students have the talent, ideas and determination though confronted with the problems of insurgency, unemployment and slow pace of economic development for some years. But the state government seeks to promote the advantage of engineering science in the state, he said observing, it will save outflow of large amount of money from the state.
