Lalu Prasad Yadav said on Tuesday that his party would support Nitish Kumar for Prime Minister. Amid the speculations that there is a rift between the Janata Dal United and the Rashtriya Janata Dal over Nitish Kumar’s role in national politics, this statement came from RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav about supporting Nitish Kumar.
It would help Nitish Kumar in realizing his ambition, but before that first of all, Nitish needs to make way for Tej Pratap Yadav and let him become the Chief Minister. The statement made by Lalu Prasad Yadav was meant by a lot of politicians as a double barreled salvo, as proving to the Congress that Nitish Kumar is now the national leader and also that it is family’s political legacy. Tej Pratap Yadav is son of Lalu Prasad Yadav.
Bihar Deputy CM and younger son of Lalu Prasad Yadav, Tejaswi Yadav also extended support to his father’s voice and said Nitish Kumar is honest and has a clean image. “We will definitely support him,” he said. But when asked about his choice for PM post from Nitish Kumar and Rahul Gandhi, he dodged the question and said the party will decide it at that time.
Lalu said, “I will help Nitish become PM. There is no two option about RJD supporting Nitish in his efforts to become PM.” He further added, “Ever since Nitish has become JDU President, all the parties have become nervous. They are unable to digest Nitish Kumar’s growing popularity. With so much praise, Nitish Kumar has risen in stature. He is ready to go on a national platform and seeing this, the other parties have become scared that he could be the next Prime Minister.”
He also said that he supported Nitish Kumar’s idea of a Sangh-free India and also the formation of anti-BJP front for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Nitish and Lalu are known as the Bade bhai and Chote bhai (elder brother and younger brother) in Bihar politics. Nitish, since he became the President of JDU, has started the process of merging the parties like Ajit Singh’s RLD and Babulal’s JVM and has also declared openly that he will take his prohibition outside Bihar.
But, on Monday, when he was asked about the PM candidate, he said that there are many who fit the bill. After becoming the JDU President, he had said that if you want to defeat BJP, then all the parties need to be united. According to him, there should be unity among the non-BJP parties.
Hitting hard at the Nitish Kumar’s growing ambitions, senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi said, “Ever since Nitish Kumar has become the JDU President, his focus has drifted from Bihar, where law and order has gone from bad to worse.” “Why should Bihar suffer for his national ambition?” he asked.
