The very first CET was conducted in 1994 and has grown in importance ever since. Karnataka CET is being conducted for admissions into Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, Unani, Naturopathy & Yoga, Engineering, Technology, Pharmacy, and Farm Sciences courses. The test also used to be held for admission to MBBS/BDS admissions, however, with the implementation of NEET, it was scrapped for those courses.
For the first time, bilingual (English & Kannada) question paper has been set in CET. English will be considered final in case of confusion.
KEA has adopted randomisation in allotment of exam centres to prevent malpractices. Based on the applications, the exam centres were allotted on random basis. Under the method, the students have been allotted the exam centre in a region different than theirs. KEA has asked the students to reach half an hour before the first bell.
KEA has said that this year a total of 1,85,411 candidates had registered to take KCET. Of them, 94,415 are boys and 90,996 are girl students. A total of 404 venues have been set up in 52 cities, 29 districts in the state for the smooth holding of the test.
