Holi pushes back JKPSC KAS exam by one week

JKPSC KAS exam 2016 has been postponed by one week. The decision to postpone the exam has been taken as the earlier scheduled date, i.e. 12 March 2017 will be celebrated as Holi festival. The KAS Pre exam will now be held on 19 March in two sessions.

Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission had notified the Combined Services Competitive Examination 2016, also known as KAS exam (Kashmir Administrative Services). A total of 277 posts under Administrative Service, Police Service, and Accounts Service are to be filled under the exam.

The official notice of postponement of the exam was issued under the name of Shakeel ul Rehman, Secretary & Controller of Examinations, J&K Public Service Commission on 18 January. The notice mentions: “In view of the Holiday on account of Holi festival falling on 12 March, the Combined Competitive (Preliminary) Examination, 2016 shall now be held on 19 March in two sessions.”

This is the fourth time that the exam has been postponed. Initially, the KAS Pre exam was scheduled to be held on 25 September 2016, however, due to disruptive conditions across the State, the application process had come to a halt. As soon as the conditions returned to normal, the application process was wrapped in December and it was proposed that the exam shall be held on 19 February 2017. Later, the date was changed to 12 March.

While the exam was postponed time and again, the same has come as a boon for aspirants. Meanwhile, some aspirants might get frustrated due to the changes in the schedule. For now, the exam stands confirmed to be held on 19 March, which leaves almost 2 months for the aspirants to finish their preparations. The prelims exam would consist of two papers, carrying total 450 marks. Paper 1 will be General Studies, while Paper 2 will be Subject-based. Both the papers will be conducted on 19 March in two separate sessions of 2 hours each.

The candidates declared qualified in the prelims exam will be called for the main exam. The date for KAS Main exam is yet to be finalized by the Commission.
