West Bengal State Council of Technical Education (WBSCTE) conducted the JEXPO 2017 exam on April 30 across multiple test centers in West Bengal and Tripura. Around 90 thousand students take the JEXPO examination each year for securing a seat in one of the Diploma courses offered at Polytechnics of West Bengal. The results of JEXPO 2017 are expected to be announced on or before May 12.
JEXPO 2017 was notified in January for facilitating admissions in 24 diploma courses offered at around 140 government and private polytechnic institutions of West Bengal. The admissions in these institutions will be made on the basis of JEXPO 2017 result for the academic session 2017-18.
WBSCTE conducted JEXPO 2017 in offline mode in two shifts today, with the first paper in the morning shift (10 am to 12 noon) followed by Paper 2 in the afternoon shift from 1 pm to 3 pm. JEXPO Paper 1 (Mathematics) carried 100 marks, while Paper 2 also carried 100 marks equally divided among subjects – Physics and Chemistry. The questions were based on the Class X syllabi of West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE). Since the exam was taken as an offline exam, the students had to answer the questions in the machine gradable answer sheets (OMR Answer Sheet).
Earlier, the admit cards were issued by the Council on April 7, however, the initial date for uploading the admit cards was April 3. The candidates were asked by the Council to carry the exam hall ticket and one valid ID proof to the examination centers.
Last year, the exam was held in the last week of May, while the results were declared on June 5. For finalizing the admission process in time, the Council decided to conduct the exam earlier this year. As per the official notification of JEXPO 2017, the results will be declared on or before May 12, while the merit list containing the ranks of the students will be out on May 19.
The admissions in Diploma courses in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture will be based on the JEXPO result only and the Council will notify the counselling process shortly after the declaration of the results. The process of counselling will commence tentatively in June. As much as 22 percent seats in Government & Government Sponsored Polytechnics are reserved for SC candidates of West Bengal. Similarly, 6 percent & 3 percent seats are reserved for ST candidates & PH candidates of WB respectively.
