Stuck between JEE Main and Aadhaar Card, here’s a quick guide for all solutions

Ever since the CBSE announced that the engineering aspirants across the country looking to register for the national-level entrance exam JEE Main 2017 will have to furnish the details of Aadhaar card, there has been a discontent among the aspirants. Sensing this, the Board even issued the public notice to clarify the doubts encircling the minds of aspirants regarding the requirement of Aadhaar.

CBSE, in its public notice, said that the use of Aadhaar will result in the accuracy of the applicants’ details. Aadhaar card was introduced in the year 2009, while the first Aadhaar card (UID Number) was issued in 2010. Under the newly introduced Aadhaar Act 2016, the Aadhaar number can be used for establishing the identity of an individual.

Taking a step forward with the inclusion of Aadhaar in the education system by several state education boards, CBSE has mandated Aadhaar card for filling the application forms of JEE Main 2017. Well if we consider that most of the aspirants do possess Aadhaar card, there might be a larger section who do not have it. As soon as the news of mandatory Aadhaar for JEE Main application broke out, there began a sense of fear among such students of loosing a precious year as they would not be able to apply for the exam without Aadhaar card.

I am eligible for JEE Main 2017, but I do not have an Aadhaar Card ?

If you are one of the aspirants with this question, here’s a solution from CBSE. For normal purpose, one can easily apply for Aadhaar at any of the Aadhaar enrollment centers, the list of such centers is available at UIDAI’s website (uidai.gov.in). For JEE Main aspirants, CBSE has set up facilitation centers in each city where JEE Main will be conducted for Aadhaar enrollment. These centers will not charge any amount from the aspirants for Aadhaar enrollment. The list of these facilitation centers is available at jeemain.nic.in.

I have applied for Aadhaar card, but what if I do not receive it before the last date of JEE Main 2017 Application ?

For such applicants who have applied for Aadhaar card, they can simply register for JEE Main 2017 by using the 28-digit Aadhaar Enrolment ID.

My City’s Facilitation Center does not have Aadhaar Application Facility, what should I do ?

CBSE has eased the provisions under mandatory Aadhaar card. Such facilitation centers where the Aadhaar enrollment facility is not available, they will issue a registration number to the applicants making request for Aadhaar enrollment. This registration number can be entered while filling JEE Main application form.

For students belonging to Jammu & Kashmir, Assam & Meghalaya, Aadhaar card is not mandatory. They can entrer passport number, ration card number, bank account number or any other Government identity number, but they would have to select the examination city in these states only.

Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is divided as two stage exam : (a) JEE Main for admissions in undergraduate engineering programs at NITs, IIITs, other centrally funded technical institutions, participating state governments’ funded technical institutions and (b) JEE Advanced for admissions at IITs.

The online application process for JEE Main 2017 has been started by the Central Board of Secondary Education from December 1, 2016. The applications will be open for submission till January 2, 2017.

  • NRI Students Note : Don’t Panic, if you do not have Aadhar card! Don’t make expensive air trips to India suddenly! All you need to enter is your passport number and just leave the Aadhar card field blank and proceed to next steps. Another thing to note: Use only India issued Credit/Debit cards. Your local cards are not honoured(Mera Bharath Mahaan!!)
Relax, Enjoy and prepare well. All the best
