December 2, 2016, 9:10 AM Update: The process to fill the application forms for JEE Main 2017 that will be held on April 2 commenced yesterday as notified by the board. Candidates can now register at the official website (jeemain.nic.in) to appear for the Joint entrance exam.
JEE Main 2017 has been scheduled to be held on April 2, 2017. The national-level entrance exam would be administered by the JEE Apex Board (CBSE) on behalf of HRD Ministry. As per the notification, the application form for JEE Main will be available from December 1. The aspiring engineers will be able to access JEE Main form at official portal jeemain.nic.in.
JEE Main serves as the biggest platform for engineering aspirants as it opens the gateway for them to enter the top engineering institutions across the country. JEE Main also serves as an eligibility test for JEE Advanced – the sole entrance exam for admissions in IITs / ISM Dhanbad. As the news was doing rounds that the aspirants should have Aadhaar card to apply for JEE Main 2017, the Board has published a note, thus clarifying the doubts related to it.
The Board has clarified that once a candidate will enter his/her Aadhaar number, name, date of birth & gender, it will be validated with the UIDAI’s data and if the details do not match, he/she will not be able to fill the application form. For those aspirants who have not yet enrolled for Aadhaar, CBSE has set up facilitation centres in each city where the exam would be conducted. These facilitation centres would not charge any amount for the Aadhaar enrolment and as many aspirants doubted that what if they would not receive their Aadhaar card before the application process concludes, CBSE has said that such applicants can enter 28-digit Aadhaar Enrolment ID for filling the application form.
Apart from making Aadhaar number a necessity, the Board has also announced two major changes in the JEE pattern for this year :
- Till last year, the 12th Class marks were added in the JEE Main score to award the JEE Main rank to all the candidates, however, the same has been discontinued. The ranks will now be awarded on the basis of JEE Main score only.
- For admissions to IITs/NITs/IIITs/CFTIs, the students much have secured 75 percent marks (top 20 percentile) in Class 12th annual exam. This remains 65 percent for SC/ST students.
The online application process for JEE Main 2017 has started from today, December 1, 2016, while the last date for application is January 2, 2017. JEE Main would be conducted by CBSE and JEE Advanced 2017 would be conducted by IIT Madras on May 21, 2017.
