Currently, only two women police stations operate in Jammu and Kashmir, with one in Jammu and another in Srinagar city, but the decision of increasing number of women police station by the first woman Chief Minister of State should be applauded. Four new-all women police stations will become functional in the state from May 15.
The police stations will be set up in areas of Anantnag and Baramulla district of Kashmir division, Rajouri and Udhampur district of Jammu division. The decision has been taken by the respective authorities to ensure speedy disposal of all the cases related to women of Jammu and Kashmir. K Rajendra Kumar, the Director General of Police have issued the order for the deployment of respective manpower and also the policies that need to be set up in the valley.
After Mehbooba Mufti took up the office, she issued the orders for setting up of the police station for women. According to a spokesman, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, in her first meeting, said that four women police stations need to be set up. These police stations will help in taking care of the grievances of women and also the pending cases. As the police station have been set up in the valley, which is near to their home, this will help them in redressal to women near their home.
Also, as only two police stations have been working in the two cities, these four police stations will help in the development of the state as the cases will not remain pending now. These police stations would help in solving the cases related to domestic violence which have spiraled across the state. In lieu of this, the government has also directed the auto rickshaws owners to install the digital meters so that commuters have been charges in a fair manner.
The decision for setting up of women police station has been taken in right manner. In past few years, sevral crimes have been noticed against women and also it has been noticed that they face a lot of inhibitions while approaching the male officer in the police station. As a result of which, the setting up of women police station will help in taking care of women and there will not be any case pending against them in future. Besides this, the women in the valley will also be able to raise their voice against the crime.
