NEW DELHI: Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has achieved a new level by receiving 1, 49, 148, record applications for over 6,000 seats for academic year 2015-16. Applications could be about 25% more than received in the past year. This registration process of entrance had started on 13th of April, 2015 and continued till 4th of May, 2015. Applications have been found for over 240 courses like M.Phil, Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Diploma, certificate in 9 faculties, 39 Departments, and a big number of Teaching and Research Centers. B.Tech courses have got the maximum applications around 39,654, Diploma Engineering has come at the second position in this regard by receiving 10, 633 applications as well as Bachelor of Dental Surgery (6,603), Bachelor of Physiotherapy (1,199) and B.A. LL.B.(Hons) (4,543 ). Some of the other courses like Humanities and languages, Social Sciences and Natural Sciences have also made a record in receiving applications form this year.
Courses that are freshly unveiled have got considerable attention from the applicants. 205 applications were received in Gender Study under Postgraduate programs, while Advanced Diploma in Public Health (57, 46), M.Sc. in Biophysics (57) and Diploma in Disaster Management have 194 seats respectively. It has been found that there are 33, 077 female and 73, 865 male applicants.
The absolute maximum number of applicants are from Uttar Pradesh (36, 407) followed by Delhi (34729), Rajasthan (1, 688), Jharkhand (2, 306), Haryana (5785), Bihar (15, 333), Jammu & kashmir(2, (939), Uttarakhand (1, 524) and West Bengal (1398). People from places like Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep also have shown their interest for admission in JMI.
So far the university has received 101 applications from other nations also. This number is still supposed to get increased till the last date for foreign applications i.e. 15th of May 2015.
The candidates, who are willing to get admission in the university, may apply online and they will have to go through entrance test which could be followed by other formalities like interview, in certain cases.
The university will conduct the entrance test for over 240 courses in 12 cities including at Ahmadabad, Bangalore, Srinagar, Delhi, Guwahati, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Ranchi, Patna, Calicut, and Lucknow. Applicants would be able to get the admit cards for all courses online.
The entrance test callded as JMI EEE, to facilitate admissions is to be taken on 13th June 2015 between 10 AM to 1 PM. Students would be made aware of their exam centres and complete schedule and relevant details through the admit cards which will be issued shortly.
The date for result of entrance test is 12th of July 2015. Selected candidates may fulfill higher level rise admission formalities by 14th July 2015 afterwards no further queries will be entertained in this regard.
