Ishan Gupta has an important role to play at Udacity as MD India

Bangalore-based Udacity has appointed Ishan Gupta as the Managing Director for India. Ishan Gupta was previously working with Paytm, a mobile commerce platform, as Vice President of the business division and also led the merchant lifecycle management team. Ishan Gupta holds a management degree from Stanford University Graduate School of Business and an engineering degree from NSIT, New Delhi.

Ishan Gupta founded an education marketplace known as Edukart in the year 2011, which was acquired by Paytm last year. Ishan Gupta said, “My stint as an entrepreneur at EduKart built my understanding of the education sector, while my role at Paytm provided me insights into building a technology-led business at massive scale. Now, at Udacity India, I am excited to apply all these learnings to build a strong team and launch more India-focused courses.”

Udacity is a non-profit organization founded by Sebastian Thru, David Stavens, and Mike Sokolsky in 2012. The Company aimed to offer Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC). The company also provides online certification to different courses that it offers to its students. The Company records lectures in video format along with quizzes that help the students to understand the subject. Udacity operates in different countries like China, Germany, India, Brazil, and the UK. The content is provided to the students while collaborating with a number of employers like Google, Yahoo, Facebook, Amazon.

In November 2015, it raised $105 million in a series D round of funding. The Nanodegree program started by Udacity is aimed at giving the students the right skill set that is required in the global workforce. The programs are offered to the students in a range of subjects.
