The Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (IIT-R), the organizing authority of the GATE 2017 exam, has released the admit cards for the exam today. As per the brochure, the admit cards were to be uploaded on the official website on 5th January, however, the applicants can access the admit cards from today. The exam is scheduled to be held on 4, 5, 11 & 12 February 2017 across selected cities in India as well as at International Centers in Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka and United Arab Emirates.
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) serves as an entrance examination for admissions in post-graduate courses (M.Tech. / Ph.D.) in IITs, IISc and various other Institutes/ Universities/ Laboratories in India. As the GATE score is also being used as one of the criteria for recruitment in Government organizations such as Cabinet Secretariat and National/ State Public Sector Undertakings in India for past few years, the number of applicants for GATE exam is on the rise. For GATE 2017, IIT Roorkee has received more than 9.23 lakh applications.
GATE is jointly administered by IISc and Seven Indian Institute of Technology (IITs at Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) and GATE 2017 is being conducted by IIT Roorkee. The exam will cover 23 papers (disciplines) and will be taken as an Online Computer-based Test (CBT).
GATE 2017 Admit Card is available now and candidates can access the respective admit card from the official web portal (http://appsgate.iitr.ac.in). The candidates will be required to enter their enrolment id/ email address, password and solve a simple maths question. Upon entering the correct credentials, they will be redirected to the account panel and will be able to download the admit card.
The candidates will have to bring the colour print out of the downloaded admit card along with the original ID card whose number was provided while filling the application form. The valid identification proof includes Passport, PAN Card, Voter ID, Aadhaar UID, Valid College ID, Employee identification card and Driving License. For international candidates, only a valid Passport/ government issued ID/ College ID/ Employee ID will be accepted.
GATE 2017 would consist of 65 questions, out of which 10 questions will belong to General Aptitude (GA) section. GA section would have five 1-mark questions and five 2-marks questions. The paper would carry maximum 100 marks distributed among multiple choice as well as numerical answer type questions. Total time duration of the exam would be 3 hours.
