It is a proud moment for India as the Indian Institute of Science (IISC), Bangalore has been included in the list of top 10 in the “Best Small Universities” category by the Times Higher Education (THE) 2017 rankings. Elated with the achievement, the President of India, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee congratulated the Director of IISc, Prof. Anurag Kumar. In his message, the President said, “please accept my hearty congratulations on your Institute having entered into the list of top 10 institutions in the ‘Best Small Universities’ category of the Times Higher Education (THE) rankings 2017”.
IISc has qualified to join shoulders with some reputed Universities of the World, namely, California Institute of Technology (Caltech), United States, Ecole Normale Superieure, France and Pohang University of Science & Technology (POSTECH) by becoming one of the top 10 institutions in the ‘Best Small Universities’ category of the Times Higher Education (THE) rankings 2017.
The message of the President to Mr. Kumar further read, “Kindly convey my sincere compliments to the entire faculty, staff, and students of your esteemed Institute for having responded to my repeated calls to strive to be amongst the top Institutions of higher learning in the world”
He also showed his belief and confidence in the excellence of the Institution and said; “the Institution will continue to strive and achieve greater and greater heights in the future”.
Indian Institute of Science has secured the eighth rank on the list of excellent small university category. But, there is no other university that was capable of making it to the top 20 ranks. Last Year, there were two Indian Institutes in the list; Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati, and Savitribai Phule Pune University, the universities were ranked 14 & 18 respectively. Both the institutes lost their ranking in the latest list in 2017.
Indian Institute of Science, IISC, Bangalore has set an example for the universities to follow suit. The president quoted that the achievement of the Institute has reinstated his belief in the Indian Universities and has given him assurance that the educational system in India holds its merit upfront with dignity.
The Director, staff, and students of Indian Institute of Science are also happy to see their university on a global platform.
