In a Cabinet Meeting which was conducted on June 24, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given the official nod for the introduction of six new IIMs in the country, to commence from the academic year 2015-16. The Press Information Bureau shared the Press Release, which states that each IIM will start the batch with the intake of 140 students in the PGP courses. The annual intake is expected to increase to reach a level of 560 students each year by the end of seven years.
The older IIMs have completed the process but the newly founded ones are taking initial steps with the support of their mentor IIMs towards completion of the mammoth task. The newly founded IIM Sirmaur (Himachal Pradesh) will have IIM Lucknow as its mentor. IIM-Lucknow has been the successful mentor for two other IIMS – IIM Rohtak and IIM Kashipur.
IIM Sirmaur will possess all the technical know-how it requires to impart quality education to the students. It has been revealed that IIM Lucknow and its faculty have been given the charge of overseeing the launch of IIM Sirmaur’s post graduate management program in its maiden year; as per the recent launch of the institute’s own website.
Presently, the management course at Sirmaur is capable to take in 60 candidates. The admissions were done via CAT 2014 to this course. Dhaula Khan in Sirmaur district will be the location of the campus.
Of the 60 seats, 28 are for general candidates, 16 for OBC, 9 reserved for SC and the remaining 5 for ST. The permanent campus being under construction, the classes at IIM-S are set to begin from August 2015 and the temporary location for the classes is served by Himachal Institute of Paonta Sahib.
The director of IIM-L is the monitoring director for IIM-S. Prof Bharat Bhaskar, the head of the task force committee of IIM Srimaur has said that candidates who have applied for the new IIM at the time of CAT 2014 and have qualified the test have already been interviewed. Online registration is available at the IIM-Srimaur website for candidates, those who are interested.
The registration swill close on June 27 and a merit list will then be prepared. The CAT-2014 percentile should be met by the candidates which is 96.3. The written ability test and personal interview scores provided by IIM-L, which has coordinated the admission process for the new IIMs, will be used by IIM Sirmaur.
