IIM, one of the most reputed institutes of the country is the dream destination for every aspiring business student. IIM Ahmedabad is planning to increase the number of seats to its allocated number. The plan is to add 800 more seats for the two years MBA course. With the new addition of seats, the existing seats will go up to 1200. This step increases the probability of more students getting into this dream institution.
The proposal has been recently submitted to the government. The proposal also had the need of adding more 400 seats in the PGPEX course (Post Graduate Programme for Executives). The need for this proposal emerged after a request from the Ministry of Human Resource and Development to consider more students in the institute.
A logical statement was made by a Ministry official- “IIMs are willing to expand and have submitted their proposals to the ministry last year. It is much more practical to strengthen the existing IIMs that are already a brand name rather than concentrating on constructing new ones.” I think it does make sense to encourage more students in cracking the entrance.
Here’s how the plan looks like-
- Seats would be added to PGP course in the first three years
- After this phase is over, seats would be added to PGPEX and other courses in IIM-A
The new IIMs that were established in Amritsar and Ranchi recently are not functioning the way it should with the lack of faculty and good facilities for the students.
Looking at this scenario, The Ministry of HRD decided on adding more seats for the aspirants in the coming year. Although the time frame decided is for five years, it is always better late than never.
