The Bhubaneswar Regional Centre of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has announced a six-month Certificate in Guidance (CIG) programme for primary school teachers. The course would help the teachers guide children between the age group of 6-14 for their better learning and holistic development. The same programme of the IGNOU, developed in collaboration with the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is already effective in Chhattisgarh. While the announcement has been made, the confirmation from the State Government is still awaited.
“Untrained primary school teachers who are normally dealing with the children up to the 14 years can benefit by joining the Certificate in Guidance programme,” said IGNOU Bhubaneswar Regional Director Dr. Abhilash Nayak. The course fee for the six-month long course has been seat as Rs. 1,100. The programme is aimed at developing an appreciation of the role of the teachers in the prevailing socio-cultural and political context in general and the educational system in particular.
Dr Nayak told reporters that they have approached School and Mass Education Secretary Ranjana Chopra with their plan. They have urged her to ensure that Government sponsors the untrained primary school teachers to join the course.
After successfully introducing certificate course in French language, the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), Bhubaneswar Regional Centre has announced certificate course in Persian language. The application process for the same has already started and would continue till December 7.
It has also been informed that IGNOU centres would be opened across the State at a distance of every 50 km.
