The state wide Google street view project will commence from Hyderabad and later it is expected to spread across other Indian cities.
Google street view is a modern technology by Google Inc that allows user across the globe to enjoy a 360 degree panoramic view of the city, its streets. There are many cities across the world that implements such technology. In recent times, India too is using the technology in places that have tourist attractions. But till now no city in India is implementing the technology in full form. In recent times Hyderabad is planning to use this technology.
Earlier, the Telengana government had held talks with the Google Street view team in the United States of America. The team promised to extend full support to the Telangana government on this issue. However, in this process, the Google team has to clear some administrative hurdles with the Government of India along with active participation of the government of Telangana. The Google team is in talks with the Home ministry officials and it is expected that they will get the permission soon.
The state wide Google street view project will commence from Hyderabad and later it is expected to spread across other Indian cities. The Street view project will be used to monitor deviations from endorsed building plans, collection of property tax, the mapping process of Industrial land bank situated in different regions of the state. The Street view project will require fibre optic cables to be installed and therefore they can use the Hyderabad water grid infrastructure to accomplish the same.
Google has relevant experience in this field. It has successfully conducted several projects of this type in the US. It has made extensive talks with the Telangana state government on the issue. In fact, it was the concerned government that made such requests. Talks are in progress with the Union home ministry, GOI, and the permissions are expected soon. The Google street view officials are studying the project with the Indian Google team in this regard.
