HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar was seeking approval from the President of India so that an inquiry can be set up against the Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University and also against the Vice Chancellor of Allahabad University R L Hangloo. This has not happened for the first time. This is the seventh Vice-Chancellor of AMU who will be facing an inquiry soon. Shah was appointed in May 2012.

The HRD Ministry did so because there were allegations against both the Vice Chancellors. The allegations were related to financial, administration and being irresponsible in academic related activities. Both the vice chancellors have been in news for a very long time because of the controversy. As a reply to the allegations on them, both of them denied it and termed it baseless.

Shah has been blamed for the mismanagement of all the activities in AMU. He has also been accused of transferring of funds that are collected by the university to his account. He has also appointed some of the ineligible candidates for the post of Assistant Professor. Whereas, Hangloo has been blamed for the transferring of the funds, and mismanaging the appointment of the teachers. The permission has been granted by the President within a week.

Shah had also written to the President that he is being framed. He also wrote that people around him are doing so because it is the easiest way to defame someone. He has also named some of the politicians also in his letter. His letter said, “I have nothing to fear from an inquiry. It will, however, provide ammunition to detractors in their efforts to weaken my position.”

The HRD Ministry wants an explanation from him in which he will have to explain why the inquiry should not be done against him. If he did not have enough reasons to prove his point, the Ministry will have to continue with their investigation.

In the past also, Smriti Irani, HRD minister had fired the Vice Chancellors of Visva Bharati University and Pondicherry University.
