The GATE online application processing system (GOAPS) has been opened now by the organizing institute – Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati. The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE 2018) is scheduled to be held in February next year and around 1 million aspirants are expected to be a part of the test. The online applications for GATE 2018 can be filled through appsgate.iitg.ac.in.
GATE 2018 application have begun today (September 1) and will remain open until October 5, according to the GATE 2018 notification. While only 4,60,541 aspirants applied for the exam in 2010, the number of applicants went above 9 lakh (more than the double) in 2017. GATE is an entrance exam through which the applicants are selected for admission in M. Tech/ M.E course. GATE 2018 is being conducted by IIT Guwahati for the admissions to Postgraduate Programs (Master’s and Doctoral).
Other Government Scholarships/ Assistantships in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Science at various Indian Institute of Science and IITs will be open to those who qualify in GATE. The GATE score will also be used by some PSUs for their recruitment. GATE 2018 score will be valid for 3 years from the announced date of results.
To fulfill the eligibility, the applicants must be holders of B.E./ B.Tech/ B.Pharmacy/ B.Arch/ B.Sc. (Research)/ BS/ MA/ M.Sc./ MCA/ Int. M.Sc or Int. BSMS. The applicants who have obtained qualifications through examinations held by professional societies recognized by UPSC/ AICTE/ MHRD as equivalent to B.E. /B.Tech. will be eligible as well. Also, those who have completed section A of AMIE or equivalent of such professional courses can fill GATE 2018 application.
Candidates have to register and fill the application via online mode only at GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS). The link is also available on GATE 2018 website- www.gate.iitg.ac.in. The entire process of filling and uploading of application form along with certificates/documents will be done via online mode only. The required documents for application are as mentioned below-
- Personal information including name, date of birth and personal mobile number.
- Address of Communication
- Eligibility degree details
- College name and address
- GATE choice of subject and exam centre
- Image of candidate’s signature.
- Eligibility certificate scanned
- Reserved category certificates scanned
- ID proof
- Online fee payment
The payment of application fees for GATE 2018 shall be submitted through electronic mode. The application fee for the applicants belonging to UR category is Rs. 1,500 and the fee for Women, SC/ST/PWD is Rs. 750. In the case of examination centres in Foreign Countries, the exam fee for Addis Ababa, Colombo, Dhaka, and Kathmandu is US$ 50 and US$ 100 for Dubai and Singapore.
GATE 2018 exam is scheduled to be held on 3rd, 4th February (9 am to 12 pm) and 10th, 11th February (2 pm to 5 pm) and the results of entrance exam will be declared on 17th March. Examination for all the 23 subjects (papers) will be held through Online mode i.e. Computer Based Test (CBT). The applicants can appear only in any one of the papers of the GATE examination.
The GATE 2018 question paper will be held for 100 marks. The applicants will be given 3 hours to complete the exam. The paper will comprise questions on general aptitude (15 marks), engineering mathematics (10-13 marks) and core engineering area of the applicant.
To select the applicants through GATE, IIT Guwahati will decide cut-off for each branch. In the case of NAT, there won’t be any negative marking.
