The official GATE answer key 2017 has been released by IIT Roorkee on February 26th along with response sheet of candidates. Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) was conducted earlier this month.
Surprising candidates, the organising institute for GATE 2017, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee uploaded the answer keys for all branches and sets yesterday on February 26th, a day ahead of the scheduled 27th February release. The candidates may view their GATE 2017 answer keys at the official website (www.gate.iitr.ernet.in) and also view their responses to the question paper by login to http://appsgate.iitr.ac.in now.
The GATE exam was conducted earlier this month in February on dates 4th, 5th, 11th and 12th. Reportedly under/over 9.5 lakh students have taken the GATE 2017 examination from their respective branch. The data shows that on average, the candidates in the range of 9-11 lakh have been applying to appear for GATE each year. In 2016, 9.71 lakh candidates had appeared for the exam which now is practically a gateway to jobs in PSUs, admissions to post graduation courses. 12 PSUs have signed MoUs with IITs as of now and more are on the way to do so. The exam is treated as a flagship exam to ensure the eligibility of an engineer to be considered for employment. The exam had witnessed it’s best in 2013 when more than 12 lakh candidates had appeared.
Apart from releasing GATE answer keys, IIT Roorkee has also uploaded the GATE 2017 response sheet of the candidates. The answer keys are available now for all test subjects/branches i.e., Mechanical, Biotechnology, Architecture, Electrical, Electronics, Civil and all the other exam branches GATE was held for. Even though the official answer keys have been published on Feb 26th, some coaching centres such as Made Easy had already provided answer keys to the candidates on the very day of the exam.
The facility to challenge the official answer keys will be made available from 3rd March (10 am) to 6th March (10 am) through GOAPS (http://appsgate.iitr.ac.in/). “The candidates can submit the challenge to any question after giving their justification(s) and a payment of Rs 500 for each challenge. The payment has to be made via online mode. Foreign students have to pay a fee of $10 for each objection. To verify things related to the answer you marked in the exam and answer given in the answer key, kindly visit the same at the official website.
The results of GATE 2017 are poised to be announced on march 27th, 2017.
According to the guidelines issued by HRD ministry, for admission to PG courses, GATE score will given a minimum of 70% weightage and 30% weightage will be give to the candidates’s performance in Personal Interview/Group Discussion/test or his/her academic records. In cases, the universities/colleges can set a minimum cut off marks to be attained in the test conducted by itself for admissions to engineering PG courses. Many of the institutions have made GATE qualification compulsory for admissions.
