Gandhi Peace Foundation is going to organise an open book exam on Mahatma Gandhi. The foundation was established with an initial grant of Rs. 10 million by the Gandhi Samaraka Nidhi. In the fifty years of its existence, the organisation has done a lot for the youth in publishing journals, organizing quizzes and regular youth camps. The main aim of the foundation is to create an environment for education and research through the various practices adopted by Mahatma Gandhi. It also aims to provide information and counselling to different teaching institutions in the field of research and help them grow.
In the year 2010, the organisation came up with two initiatives. One was a Course on Peace Education and the other one was Open Book Test on the Autobiography of Mahatma Gandhi.
This time also, they are inviting all the schools to take part in its peace education programme. According to sources, this is going to be an open book exam and all the teachers and students are invited to take part in it. They have also prepared a specific syllabus for the students, according to their class. For all those students who belong to class V and VI, the exam will be on the teachings of Vinobha Bhave. Whereas, for the students of classes VI, VIII, IX and X, it will be about Mahatma Gandhi and will cover a portion of his autobiography. For school teachers, the topic will be ‘Gandhian way to peace’.
All the students and teachers will also be provided with a certificate once they have submitted their answer sheets. Not only this, there is also a cash prize for the winners. Three national level toppers will be given cash prizes of Rs. 3,000, Rs. 2,000 and Rs. 1,000 respectively. The books along with the questionnaire will be sent to the school on or before August 15.
