Jammu & Kashmir State Board of School Education (JKBOSE) postponed their examinations which were scheduled for 7 January after receiving the sad news of demise of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Chief Minister of the State. Following the news, Central University of Kashmir also postponed its exams scheduled for Thursday. The fresh dates will be announced in due time.
Sayeed was admitted at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi from 24 December. He took his last breath at about 7.30 am in the hospital on 7 January. It was reported that since his admission in the hospital, his condition was gradually deteriorating and he was put on ventilator support. Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was born on 12 January 1936 and had served as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir for two times.
The Jammu & Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) was established in the year 1975 to regulate the school education in the State. Chairman of JKBOSE, Prof. Zahoor A Chatt informed, “In view of the demise of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, all board exams scheduled for Thursday, January 7, have been postponed. Fresh dates will be notified in due course of time.”
The Central University of Kashmir (CUK) and Central University of Jammu (CUJ) also conducted a joint condolence meet at their respective campuses to mourn the sad demise of Chief Minister. Vice-Chancellors, Registrars, faculty members and non-teaching fraternity of both universities were present during the condolence meet. The condolence meet ended with prayers and all the examinations scheduled for Thursday were postponed. Both the universities were also closed for the day.
7-day mourning period has been announced by the State government following the death of Chief Minister. The flags atop buildings of constitutional authorities and state government will fly at half-mast during the mourning period.
